# The Louvre announces a tender for the restoration of Empress Eugénie's crown, dropped by the robbers as they fled the scene of the crime

The crown, set with diamonds and emeralds, was deformed, lost part of its decorative elements and one of its golden eagles. According to the restorers, the object can nonetheless be fully restored.

The crown was made in 1855 on the commission of Napoleon III for the Exposition Universelle, and is one of three surviving crowns of French rulers that remain in France. Since 1988 it has formed part of the Louvre's collection.

The work will be carried out under the supervision of an advisory committee headed by the director of the Louvre, Laurence des Cars
