René Block, an 80-year-old German gallerist and collector, has been appointed curator of the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art in 2022\. Block opened his first exhibition 58 years ago and was in his day the youngest gallerist in Germany, and it is particularly gratifying that even now nobody writes him off.

Naturally, in the biennial's programme Block could hardly avoid addressing the presence in art of different generations, different voices and different continents, and their joint sound, harmonious or otherwise. As last year, the Riga Biennial's exhibition will be laid out on Andrejsala, a multifunctional territory on the site of a former industrial district in the centre of Riga.
