Buy! Buy! Buy! I have come to a new contemporary art fair, yes, yet another in this year of squandered budgets. It is called Obertone, and it is devoted exclusively to graphic art. It is held in an industrial zone behind Leningradsky Station. The taxi driver was most curious as to where we were headed, and we were headed here, to the brick ruins of a more advanced civilisation.

I arrive and look about me. All around are hangars, water towers and antediluvian power stations. A sort of "behind the garages" space, but on the scale of an entire Moscow district. Inside the former roundhouse stand fresh, very sprightly stands. They still smell of paint. Or is it the prices that have hit me in the eye?

And one has the feeling that graphic art has come home. Where else would the black-and-white and the papery look so organic as in a former industrial interior? Especially at a time when life is all hatching and the prospects are drawn in dotted lines alone.

And an ambulance may well be called for, if before every work you ask: how much is this? How much?
