# Who Is the Lord for Me?

Who is the Lord for me? Do I truly know Him? What does His Gospel demand of me today? What steps must I take?

Pope Leo XIV turned to the Gospel reading in which Christ asks His disciples who they say that He is. The question is put to people who had already shared life and ministry with Christ. Jesus did not take it for granted that they really knew Him, and first asked what the people said of Him, before turning to them directly.

> Faith is not given to us once and for all; on the contrary, we always need to rediscover the face of Christ and His Gospel, to deepen His message and, each time, to reaffirm the choice of our life, so that it may be in harmony with what we profess, overcoming the temptation to believe that we already know everything and to turn faith into habit.

The Pope warns against a faith of hearsay and of well-worn formulas, in which a person is content with what he has heard from others and does not seek to live it out in his own life. He urges us not to shut ourselves up in our own convictions and religious habits, but to remain open to a living and genuine relationship with Christ, which may require us to go by unexpected paths and to make choices different from those we had imagined in advance.

Naturally, he leads us to the thought that all this applies not only to the individual but to the Church as a whole, which is at times tempted to act as it has always done
