Incidentally, today is considered the day of the discovery of Florida by the Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León, who in 1513 led an expedition in search of either new lands for Ferdinand I, or the fountain of eternal youth, which is mentioned in an ancient legend that places it now in India, now in [Central Asia](https://t.me/sarkyt/235?ref=theparnassian.com). Setting out from Haiti, Ponce de León some time later approached the eastern shores of the island, on whose land his crew stepped ashore on Easter Sunday, the day when the Spaniards hold their Easter festival of flowers, called Pascua Florida, which gave the new lands their name.
