Incidentally, on the subject of Camilla, the potential Queen Consort, it is curious that it was originally supposed that, should Prince Charles be crowned, she would receive the title of Princess Consort, and this was connected with the special position of the late Princess Diana, chiefly in the hearts of the English, of course. But in time the information about this somehow vanished from the website of Clarence House, the residence of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. What is more, rumours appeared that Charles was, after all, contemplating making Camilla Queen Consort upon his accession to the throne. True, this was followed by an official denial from Clarence House, which noted that Camilla's future status as Princess Consort had been declared at her wedding to Charles, and that nothing had changed since. Be that as it may, despite Camilla's professedly modest stance (she did not lay claim to the title of Princess of Wales, although she was entitled to it, and took instead the title of Duchess of Cornwall), if Charles does live to see his accession, and she too is still alive at that moment and still his wife, then technically, as the wife of a reigning monarch, she will be deemed Queen Consort. The final decision on her formal title will be taken by Charles, who will retain the right to consult the government on the matter. For now, however, she is still promised only the rank of Princess Consort. Whereas if it is Prince William who becomes king, Kate Middleton will be Queen Consort and will accordingly be styled "Her Majesty".
