# Thatcher's departure from Parliament in 1992 and her later years

Incidentally, when Thatcher won the [election in 1987](https://theparnassian.com/vam-ee-eshche-piat-let-terpet/?ref=theparnassian.com) for the third time, some political scientists predicted that she would remain in power until 2000, when she would have turned 75\. But she chose to leave Parliament in 1992, at the age of 66, after which she continued her political activity, lecturing actively and dealing with the governments of various countries, but no longer holding any official posts. At 80 she was diagnosed with dementia, and from then on the former prime minister's health began to decline, and her public appearances and political pronouncements became ever rarer. She lived to be 87
