It is well known that when Ivan the Terrible put an end to the oprichnina, he forbade any mention of it and even razed the houses of the oprichniks in the area of present-day Prechistenka, then known as Chertolye. On the vacated site the Tsar ordered the Alexeyevsky Convent to be moved. Here Malyuta Skuratov would end his days and be buried. And here there would stand a women's torture yard, where Boyarynya Morozova and Princess Urusova (her sister) would be interrogated
