Art at the entrance of a building has long ceased to be a rarity: the golden “Prometheus” has stood in Rockefeller Center since 1934, Picasso's work in Chicago's Daley Plaza since 1967, and there is no need to look far afield: Savitsky's famous sculpture “Peace to the World!” outside a residential building on Bolshaya Pirogovskaya was installed in 1957.

In recent years much has been said of Anish Kapoor's mirrored sculpture for the tower on Leonard Street, which at once props up the tower and is crushed beneath its weight, and which was commissioned together with the building, appearing already in the first renderings. In Moscow, attempts to join architecture and art do not always live very long. Though at times, to grasp the author's intention, the viewer needs not merely time but constant interaction with the object and sustained contemplation of it.

The KROST concern and the Triptych gallery solemnly launched, on 19 September, the project “The Art of Living”, and this is no short-lived affair but a permanent network of changing exhibitions in the grand entrance halls of residential buildings. The first venues opened at once in four landmark locations: in the Wellton Towers skyscraper and in the building at Marshala Zhukova Street in Wellton Park, as well as in the skyscraper of the “Kristall” Trilogy and in the buildings of the “Trilogy on Karbyshev” in the Union Park quarter.

Among the artists are Veronika Kudashova, Mari Agarkova, Elena Troyanskaya, Tatyana Vafina, Yulia Krivozubova and others. Painting, abstraction, realism, video and light installations: everyone will find what speaks to them in particular.

In format it is closer to the lobby collections of business and residential buildings, long established in New York and London, where the hall becomes a small permanent exhibition. So far only a handful of developers in Russia go down this road. KROST is one of the first to do so systematically and in earnest.
