# Why an object's rarity alone does not make it valuable to a collector

A concise reply to those who mistakenly equate the rare with the valuable. A limited print run cannot be the root cause of collecting interest in any object unless it possesses certain special and fundamental artistic, technical, material, ideological or circumstantial qualities. Anything at all may be rare, even unique, from a morel to a dinner plate, but not everything can fit into someone's collecting theme and become interesting to a collector. Otherwise not a single artefact ever made by human hands would be excluded from the field of collecting
