Mikhail Shemyakin's illustration to Alexander Vvedensky's poem "The Guest on Horseback and the World". 1971.

Do note how closely it resembles Pepperstein's present manner. And Shemyakin, here still very early, at 28, has not yet acquired his recognisable, frightening hand, with its dreadful monsters and slimy bogeys of every stripe.

It is shown at an exhibition at the Galeev Gallery devoted to the life of Alexander Vvedensky, one of the greatest Russian poets of the twentieth century, to his artistic and literary connections, his friends, his work, and his influence on the art and culture of the age.
