# Alice Guy-Blaché, Gaumont Secretary and the First Woman Fiction Film Director

So Alice Guy-Blaché recalled her engagement as a secretary at the Gaumont company, a post that made her the first woman in history to direct a fiction film.

Between 1896 and 1920 the pioneer of world cinema produced and directed more than 1,000 films.

Alice lived a long life, very nearly a hundred years, from 1873 to 1968, founded her own film company and entered the history of cinema.
