A Romanian national who set fire to the church of Notre-Dame-des-Champs in Paris last July, as Le Parisien reports, has been declared insane by the Paris Criminal Court. He was already known for similar acts in 2021.

He set fire to a statue of Christ, which was completely destroyed, and also damaged a painting depicting the Nativity. The cost of repairs is estimated at 2–3 million euros.

In view of this, the person of Romanian origin, already caught for the same deeds in 2021, was found not criminally responsible for the arson, and was simply forbidden to approach the church for 3 years.
