Shift Gallery has opened a new space at 5c1 Petrovsky Boulevard. In a season when the news pours out nothing but closures, it is pleasant to see that the young and bold are, for a change, opening things and reopening them.

The first exhibition is called "Under Observation", and its theme is watching: the fact that someone is always keeping an eye on someone else and inventing things about them.
Congratulations to the gallery's founders, Vlad Dukhanin and Dasha Kuznetsova, who are, incidentally, one of the most agreeable art tandems in Moscow.

Among the works. Kutya reconstructs the awarding of a title to one of the Moscow beauties of the 1990s, and the very scene in which everyone is looking: the participants at one another and at the ceremony, and the heroine at herself, across the years. In the photograph of the presentation her eyes are "embroidered" with her signature lines converging into a knot, and the rays of her gaze travel into a toy mirror opposite.

Tim Parshchikov invites us to pick out, in a group photograph, the person who might turn out to be a rapist, a work from his well-known series. Here the viewer becomes the one who suspects and peers. From a foam-rubber facade of the Moscow metro a surveillance camera watches us. From the other side, Alyona Seletskaya shows the face of a man who said "logical" with confidence, hoping that nobody would ask him to explain why. Konstantin Adzher has captured on canvas the last look of a drone. But if all this tracking is not to your taste, you can step aside and look at yourself in a mirror, with the mantra I am not taking part in it
