Photograph from the Byron family vault in the Church of St Mary Magdalene at Hucknall. The poet's remains lie in a coffin bearing a small coronet. Beneath it stands the coffin of the previous lord, the Wicked or Sinful Byron, his [great-uncle](https://theparnassian.com/uiliam-5-i-baron-bairon-britanskii-dvorianin-per-politik-dvoiurodnyi-ded-znamenitogo-poeta-voshel-v-istoriiu-kak-greshnyi-lord-ili-diavolskii-bairon-uzhasnyi-negodiai-izbivavshii-zhenu-/?ref=theparnassian.com), which in turn rests on top of the utterly crushed coffin of the 4th Lord Byron. Beside the coffin of George Gordon stands that of his [daughter](https://theparnassian.com/pervym-v-istorii-programmistom-schitaetsia-grafinia-ada-lavleis-edinstvennyi-zakonnyi-otprysk-dzhordzha-gordona-bairona-s-kotorym-ona-pravda-videlas-edinozhdy-v-zhizni-kogda-ei-byl-mesi/?ref=theparnassian.com) Ada Lovelace, and beneath it lies the coffin of the poet's mother. The condition may seem rather sorry for the resting place of a noble family, but do not forget that this is merely a cramped vault beneath a church floor, and the tombs of kings themselves sometimes look [no better inside](https://theparnassian.com/kstati-interesnyi-kazus-naschet-goda-smerti-karla-i-kaznennogo-v-ianvare-1649-na-ego-nadgrobii-znachitsia-1648-god/?ref=theparnassian.com)
