Among Etna's more recent notable eruptions, the one of 2 June 2025 was a palpable affair, as was the one before it, in the spring and summer of 1669, when lava flows went on for several months and reached the walls of the city of Catania. The first historically reliable eruption of Etna took place in 475 BC. But at the beginning of 2026 the old lady was active once again. Lesser eruptions of Etna are recorded very often, practically every year
