If you happen to have a couple of spare millions lying about, do not rush to invest in securities and cryptocurrency: this autumn two weighty collections of antiques, furnishings, art, jewellery and clothing go under the hammer. The auction houses will present the collections of two celebrated society ladies, icons of twentieth-century fashion and, incidentally, friends of Truman Capote: Lee Radziwill, who died six months ago aged 85, and the 90-year-old Countess Jacqueline de Ribes. The Lee Radziwill collection will be sold at [Christie’s](https://www.christies.com/features/Lee-Bouvier-Radziwill-Collection-9993-1.aspx?sc%5Flang=en&ref=theparnassian.com) in October; a month later [Sotheby’s](https://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/2019/collection-ribes-pf1930.html?ref=theparnassian.com) will present the legacy of the aristocratic de Ribes family, including works of art and antiquities, many of which once belonged to Marie Antoinette herself
