# The Spiritual Testament, that is, the Will of Dmitry Donskoy, Grand Prince of Moscow, Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts

"In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, behold, I, the sinful and unworthy servant of God, Dmitry Ivanovich, write this spiritual charter with my whole mind. I give my order to my sons and to my princess.

I commit my children to my princess. And you, my children, live in concord, and heed your mother in all things.

And I commit my patrimony, Moscow, to my children, Prince Vasily, Prince Yury, Prince Andrey, Prince Pyotr. And my brother, Prince Vladimir, shall hold his third, with which his father, Prince Andrey, blessed him.

And I bless my son, Prince Vasily, with my patrimony, the grand principality…

And I bless my son, Prince Yury, with my grandfather's purchase, Galich, with all its districts, and villages, and all its dues, and with those villages which were bound to Kostroma…

And I bless my son, Prince Andrey, likewise with my grandfather's purchase, Beloozero, with all its districts…

And I bless my son, Prince Pyotr, likewise with my grandfather's purchase, the Uglich Field, and whatever pertains to it…

And I give to my princess, out of the grand principality, from my son… And whatever I have given to my princess from the appanage of my son Prince Vasily, and of Prince Yury, of Prince Andrey, of Prince Pyotr, districts and villages, and whatever God shall determine for my princess, those districts and villages shall belong to whichever appanage they lie in… And should God, for our sins, take away any of my sons, my princess shall divide his share among the appanages of my sons. To whomever she gives anything, that shall be his, and my children shall not go against her will… And should God give me another son, my princess shall divide his share, taking a portion from his elder brothers…

And should any of my sons lose part of the patrimony with which I have blessed him, my princess shall reapportion it among my sons from their appanages. And you, my children, heed your mother.

And should God, for our sins, take away my son, Prince Vasily, then whoever comes next after him among my sons shall have Prince Vasily's appanage, and my princess shall divide that appanage among them.

And you, my children, heed your mother: whatever she gives to anyone, that shall be his.

And should God change the Horde, my children shall not pay tribute to the Horde, and whichever of my sons collects tribute in his own appanage, that shall be his.

And whatever districts and villages I have given to my princess from the appanages of my children, and my own acquisitions, and settlements, and villages, and Kholkhol, and Zayachkov, whatever my princess takes from those districts, and settlements, and villages, that shall be hers. And my children shall not meddle in it.

And whoever shall violate this my charter, God shall judge him, and he shall have neither the mercy of God nor my blessing, neither in this age nor in the age to come.

And I have written this charter before my fathers: before the abbot Sergius, before the abbot Savastian.

And present here were our boyars: Dmitry Mikhailovich, Timofey Vasilyevich, Ivan Rodivonovich, Semyon Vasilyevich, Ivan Fyodorovich, Alexander Andreyevich, Fyodor Andreyevich, Fyodor Andreyevich, Ivan Fyodorovich, Ivan Andreyevich."
