Until 1956, when the sole code of Russian spelling and punctuation, approved by the authorities and the USSR Academy of Sciences, was adopted, the verbs ПРИЙТИ, ПРИДТИ and even ПРИТТИ were all considered equally valid; after the reform, only ПРИЙТИ was left as correct. So if you still spell it the wrong way, it is not illiteracy, but simple archaism
