Something tells me, on this day of splendid quotations from presidents, that in response to the call

zealous executors, should any be found, will be more likely to concern themselves not with creating something like those circles for the elimination of illiteracy among housewives, as in this photograph of 1931 from the legendary Soviet photo-essay on the daily life of a Moscow metalworker's family, "24 Hours in the Life of the Filippov Family". Quite the contrary: they will start thinking how to bring the level of the so-called elites down, more skilfully, to that of the illiterate housewives, so as to make quite sure
