Let me remind you that terrorists blew up the arch, reconstructed by the French in the 1930s, in 2015\. In April this year a visualisation of the Russian project for restoring the monument was presented at the Hermitage Theatre; it was developed at the Centre for Rescue Archaeology together with a working group of architects, restorers and scholars from the Hermitage, MARCHI, Saint Petersburg State University and the Institute for the History of Material Culture. On the whole, this project has genuinely raised the standing of the Russian school of restoration quite considerably. Work on it was due to begin as early as this summer. Among the things of importance, a digital model was created, recording the existing damage and allowing the restoration processes to be simulated virtually.
