The only wooden structure of the Nikolo-Korelsky Monastery to have survived to our day stands in Moscow, on the grounds of the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve.

The monastery, at the mouth of the Northern Dvina on the shore of the White Sea, is first mentioned in the chronicles in 1419\. Before the building of Arkhangelsk, it was the principal seaport of Rus'.

It was from this monastery that Mikhail Lomonosov set out in 1731 to study in Moscow.

From the second half of the seventeenth century, stone churches began to be built in the cloister, surrounded by a wooden fence with square towers. Above the eastern gate stood an octagonal tented tower, through which one entered the monastery. It was saved after the monastery was closed in the 1920s.
