Andrea Mantegna, Ecce Homo, 1500s.

The title of the canvas means, quite literally, Behold the man!

Christ, crowned with thorns, bearing the marks of his torments and bound with cords, and his persecutors, merging into a single, unanimous crowd on either side of him, among them the Jewish dignitaries who accused Christ before Pilate.

The inscriptions behind read "crucify him, crucify him!"

This is the very High Renaissance itself.
