# Allegory of the Victory at Chesma

> "The sea; in the distance the Russian fleet can be seen; in the foreground Empress Catherine II in a chariot drawn by sea-horses and guided by Neptune; on the right side of the chariot is Minerva, and on the left a genius holds fettered Turks on a chain and places a laurel wreath upon the Empress's head. Fame in the air with a trumpet and laurels."

The medallions depict the celebrated naval commanders, the chief participants in the battle. In the uppermost medallion on the far right is Alexey Orlov-Chesmensky; in the other three are Admiral Grigory Spiridov, Rear Admiral Samuel Greig and Lieutenant General Fyodor Orlov.
