# It is indeed odd that the event is called the "Petersburg International Economic Forum" rather than the "Saint Petersburg" one

It is indeed odd that the event is called the "Petersburg International Economic Forum" rather than the "Saint Petersburg" one. Even in English it is St. Petersburg.

"Saint", after all, is not even a prefix but part of the name, pointing to the city's connection with the Apostle Peter, its heavenly patron. Originally the name sounded like "Sankt-Piter-Burkh". I understand that in everyday speech one may simply say Piter, but for so significant an occasion to lop off a third of the name seems somehow absurd
