On 27 July the MMOMA Education Centre at 17 Yermolayevsky Lane will open "Artist-Collector", an exhibition project by Georgy Kizevalter, a representative of Moscow Conceptualism and one of the founders of the art group Collective Actions. Kizevalter works in such media as painting, photography, installation and performance, and in his new project he turns to the device of the "artist-character", building a plot around an invented "artist-collector" who has resolved to unite the almost forgotten images of Soviet ideology, embodied in postage stamps, envelopes and postcards, with the ideas of modernism. The "artist" begins his work by transforming postage stamps and creating new signs of postal payment. In the course of the project the hero makes a curious discovery: the author "grows into" the images and gradually moves on to independent painting, based on just such a rebranding of old
ideological clichés. In the end, having assembled a whole "collection" of works that reinterpret the canonical images of Soviet agitprop, the "author" decided to present it in a museum.
