26–28 April saw the Battle of the Adda, a clash between the Russo-Austrian and French armies. Yet another brilliant victory for Suvorov, who commanded the allied forces, opened Milan to the Russian army, and the city was soon taken.

To the vexation of Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov, this was yet another occasion on which he failed to cross swords with Napoleon, who, incidentally, also dreamed of meeting the Russian military genius on the field of battle one day. But the two greatest commanders of their age never did fight each other. One wonders who would have carried the day, Suvorov or Napoleon?
