1743\. Prince Dolgorukov receives, as the dowry of his bride, a modest estate not far from Ruza. In time he lays out here a rich and hospitable house in which to rest from the bustle of Moscow, builds churches, develops the farm and adorns the place in every way. In the war of 1812 the French ravaged this region of splendid Moscow-country residences; they say Napoleon himself put up in one of the manor houses. By the beginning of the century the descendants of Vasily Dolgorukov-Krymsky had amassed here an enormous collection of works of art and treasures. In the Soviet years all the curious household objects, the presentation weapons, the picture collection and the Dolgorukovs' family crypt were subjected to raids by Pioneers and Party men. But since some of the treasures were heavy and at times quite immovable, the plunderers spent half a century building up muscle for an effective "removal", and in the end decided to stay on the spot, turning the estate into a base of the Weightlifting Federation. Today the Volynshchina-Poluektovo estate is ringed by a fence with faded Olympic rings, and the athletes are in residence there to this day
